OrthoWave Shockwave Therapy Overview

Shockwave therapy uses focused acoustic sound waves to treat pain and stimulate tissue repair. Originally developed for breaking down kidney stones, the technology has been adapted to target muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and connective tissue. Treatment is delivered through a handheld applicator placed on the skin without needles or incisions, and sessions are typically brief.

As the shockwaves travel into tissue, they create controlled mechanical stress that helps trigger a biologic response — including increased circulation, cellular activation, and accelerated healing in areas that may not be responding to rest or more traditional modalities alone.

OrthoWave directs high-energy acoustic waves into targeted tissue — reaching meaningful treatment depths to influence damaged, chronically irritated, or underperforming tissue environments. These waves may help:

  • Disrupt pain signaling from irritated nerves
  • Stimulate local blood flow and microcirculation
  • Promote cellular repair and tissue regeneration
  • Support the breakdown of calcific or fibrotic tissue

The result is often improved comfort, mobility, and function as the underlying tissue begins to recover rather than simply being masked by medication alone.

  • Non-invasive, in-office treatment
  • No anesthesia required
  • No incisions, sutures, or scarring
  • No increased infection risk from the procedure itself
  • Minimal to no downtime for most patients
  • High patient interest in modern non-surgical options
  • Supports faster, easier recovery across many chronic and acute presentations
  • Chronic tendinopathies and inflammatory pain patterns
  • Muscle strains and overuse injuries
  • Myofascial trigger points and soft tissue restrictions
  • Jumper's knee and other sports-related knee pain
  • Acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain
  • Scar tissue, adhesions, and calcific soft tissue changes
  • Collagen stimulation and tissue remodeling support
  • Tennis elbow and lateral epicondylitis
  • Achilles tendon pain and insertional tendinopathy
  • Circulatory and soft tissue applications relevant in performance-focused care
  • Neuropathic-type pain presentations in appropriate cases
OrthoWave® Regenerative Program

The Future of Musculoskeletal Healing

Shockwave therapy uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate blood flow, accelerate healing, and support the body's own regenerative response — without injections, surgery, or downtime.

In just a few short sessions, patients often report less pain, better movement, and a faster return to the activities they value most.

Target the Root CauseFocused energy penetrates deep into damaged tissue to break up scar tissue and calcifications while increasing local circulation.
Trigger RegenerationThe mechanical stimulus encourages growth factors and stem cell activity, helping the body repair tendons, ligaments, and muscles.
Fast, Non-Invasive SessionsMost treatments take minutes, require no anesthesia, and allow patients to return immediately to normal activity.

Common Questions

Everything You Want
To Know About OrthoWave

Answers to the questions providers ask most before adding OrthoWave to their practice.

Shockwave therapy has an established safety profile supported by decades of clinical use and a large body of published literature. It is non-invasive, does not require anesthesia, and carries no increased infection risk. Most patients experience mild transient discomfort during treatment, which typically resolves quickly. OrthoWave's DualSync™ technology is specifically designed to optimize patient tolerance while maintaining therapeutic energy delivery.

Published research indicates that many patients experience sustained improvement for 12 months or longer following a completed shockwave protocol. Because shockwave stimulates the body's own regenerative response — promoting new tissue formation, collagen synthesis, and improved circulation — the results are driven by biological healing rather than temporary symptom suppression. Outcomes vary based on condition severity, patient health, and protocol adherence.

OrthoWave is primarily structured as a cash-pay program, which allows providers to offer a premium service outside of insurance reimbursement constraints. Patients pay a protocol fee of $1,500–$2,500 upfront for their full 5–8 session course of treatment.

OrthoWave may also be covered in personal injury and auto accident cases. Additionally, the Dynamic Tissue Activation™ component may be billable under ultrasound codes depending on your payer and documentation. Our team provides billing guidance as part of onboarding.

Shockwave therapy has demonstrated strong clinical outcomes across a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. Highest-response conditions include plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), rotator cuff tendinopathy, and calcific shoulder tendinitis. It is also used effectively in sports recovery, soft tissue dysfunction, neuropathic presentations, wound healing support, and aesthetic applications including cellulite and skin laxity.

OrthoWave provides comprehensive onboarding for every provider and their team. This includes live Zoom clinical training, condition-specific protocols, patient presentation scripting, front desk conversion training, and certification upon completion. Most providers are fully operational within two weeks of receiving their device. Ongoing support is available indefinitely — not just during onboarding.

OrthoWave features DualSync™ technology — the most advanced shockwave platform available, combining Electromagnetic and Electrohydraulic Focused Shockwave with Pneumatic Ballistic Radial Shockwave and Dynamic Tissue Activation™ in a single system. This multi-modal approach allows providers to treat a broader range of conditions, at greater tissue depths, with superior patient tolerance compared to single-modality radial-only devices. Beyond the technology, OrthoWave is the only program that pairs the device with protected territories, AI-powered patient marketing, and complete business and clinical support.

Many patients report noticeable improvement within 2–3 sessions, though the full biological response continues to develop over 6–12 weeks following treatment as tissue remodeling progresses. Some patients experience a temporary increase in soreness after early sessions — this is a normal part of the healing response. Results accelerate as the protocol progresses, and most patients complete their full course feeling significantly improved compared to their baseline.
